Overview

Summary/objective

As a member of the asTech diagnostic team, the Mobile Technician will visit customer workshops to diagnose, calibrate, and program modules, as well as recommend or perform small wiring repairs for vehicles involved in collisions or requiring repairs. You will collaborate closely with the Mobile Operations Manager and the Remote Operations team in Peterlee to coordinate customer activities. In partnership with customers at their workshops, you will conduct diagnostic scans, troubleshoot faults, and assist with ADAS calibrations. You will utilize asTech® all-in-one devices, OEM tools, workshop manuals, ADAS static calibration equipment (for cameras and radars), TPMS tools, hand tools, and other diagnostic equipment.

  • A successful candidate will work independently, attending workshops, building relationships and trust with customers, whilst being supported by a Team Leader and the Mobile Operations Manager
  • Serve as the primary client contact for Repairify mobile operations within the region.
  • Proficiently identify faults, error messages, and module corrections (DTCs).
  • Capable of performing all required diagnostic tests.
  • Quickly learn how to evaluate information and data, providing a comprehensive interpretation of technical details.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service through effective communication and interaction, providing advice, guidance, and reporting.
  • Adhere to the planning schedule to carry out daily routines and prioritise inbound requests based on location and urgency.
  • Utilize ServiceM8 software to generate certificates, invoicing, and reports for clients.
  • Communicate technical issues and needed repairs to mechanical staff and clients.
  • Be flexible with workloads, daily job attendance, and travel distance, considering planning time to meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain communication with the Mobile Operations Manager at all times to ensure awareness of any issues or escalations.
  • Work efficiently as part of a team, collaborating to develop solutions and provide support when needed.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and environmental rules.
  • Conduct weekly checks on the company vehicle to ensure it remains in good working condition, including tyres, brakes, oil and fluids, lights, wipers, and cleanliness.
  • Take responsibility for the upkeep of company-provided equipment and highlight any additional requirements.
  • Occasionally required to stay overnight in a hotel due to job geography and workload demands, with expenses covered.
  • Ensure the company vehicle is kept in a safe location overnight when not in use, and that some company equipment is securely stored due to the cost of tooling and assets.
  • You may be required to work additional hours, travel beforehand, and be on-site by 8 am to begin your shift.
  • Engage in continuous learning through e-learning training sessions to stay well-informed about new technical information and techniques in rapidly evolving automotive technology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in a car dealership or in an aftermarket repair facility as an Automotive Technician.
  • Experience with OEM and/or aftermarket scan tools and related knowledge.
  • Strong automotive mechanical and electrical diagnosis, problem-solving, and repair experience.
  • Experience working on ADAS systems, either mobile or in a workshop.
  • Must have company-designated certifications or obtain within 6 months: IMI AOM230 ADAS Certification and IMI Level 2 & 3 in electric/hybrid vehicle maintenance.
  • Must have a UK driving licence.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office365 and web application software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with new car OEM dealerships is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, high-energy, and customer-focused.
  • In-depth understanding of the automotive industry, including various manufacturer acronyms and jargon.
  • Proficient in customer service and reporting.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload.

Supervisory responsibilities

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work environment

This role will involve visiting various accident repair workshops, where you will be required to assist in supporting the repair and calibration of vehicles, including cars, vans, and HGV trucks. You will also need to perform dynamic calibration drives and road tests on customer vehicles, taking the utmost care with each vehicle. A dedicated workspace will be required to perform calibrations, using static calibration equipment and camera floor mats. When the workshop requires your support with repairs, you will provide your expertise to assist in addressing faults they cannot resolve themselves, or offer guidance to help with repairs.

 

Physical demands

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 25 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.

 

Travel required

This position will require travel between customer sites and our Luton and Peterlee offices.
